A lot of times macs slow down due to clutter on the drive and a wipe of the hard drive and reinstall of the OS fixes everything.įollowing this, you can do a ram upgrade and SSD upgrade relatively easy. My recommendation would be to start with a wipe and load of the OS. That computer has a lot of life left in it. Seems a waste that you need to get rid of computer that otherwise looks fine, but I get that this is apple’s business model! Looking for recommendations re specific upgrades (ie hard drive, RAM, anything else?), and if anyone has had experience paying a third party to do this and how much it cost (I’m in Australia).īasically I just want a machine that is fast/powerful enough to do the things mentioned above. Has anyone done a similar upgrade or done a cost comparison between new iMac vs upgrading? I mainly use it to run Logic Pro X, and my wife uses it for photos (mainly just storage, no editing) and some work stuff (email, Dropbox, word, excel etc).īased on reading of other threads, this particular model is difficult to upgrade, and I wouldn’t be wanting to try and do this myself.

I have a an iMac (27 inch, late 2013 3.2Ghz intel core i5, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3) that is running super slow, constantly hanging when opening browser/apps/documents etc, and I’m considering whether to try and upgrade it (eg upgrade hard drive and RAM) or buy a new one (or go with a MacBook Pro and keep the iMac as a second screen - seems a waste to just send it back to apple).
